This page is simply a few pointers/tips for Magi Nation Players. It is by no means an "exact Science", and it won't be the case for everyone. It is simply a few ideas that I have come up with since I've started.
Feel free to Email me if you would like further help!
to answer a few people's questions, here are my favorite regions... 1- Underneath- Duh! They were my favorite region when the game first came out, and they still are! 2- Nar- I love these guys about as much as I do the Underneath! They have some of the coolest (no pun intended) abilities when things are frozen. 3- Core- Contrary to some of the harsh statements I've made below, I actually DO like the Core; I just think some people play them for the wrong reasons. It just something about being bad that feels soooo good!
"Magi Nation is 20% cards and 80% player..." Just because a person has "the best cards" or "the best deck" doesn't mean they'll always win. One of the great things about MN is that most games will be won simply because of player's skill to play the deck he/she is playing, rather than the cards in it. If you want to become a better player, focus on: how you play, decision making, and building your player skills rather than focusing on what cards you have or need.
"Every Magi started somewhere...." Everyone started out somewhere, and you can't expect to start playing as the best player. That's just the way ALL card games go. Just PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and when your done practicing.....practice one more time!
"40-45 cards only...." This rule is pretty flexable, but for the basic deck don't go over 45 cards. It will slow you down if you have too many cards.
"Learn when to attack, and when not to...." This is common mistake many new players make. Never just throw all your creatures at you opponent unless you'll win. In my opinion, nine one-energy creatures is better than having one 9-energy creature.
"One extra creature is good...." This is just a basic defensive principal. Always try to have one more creature than your opponent. Even if it is a 1-energy creature, it can often prevent your opponent from attacking your Magi directly.
"Hold onto your relics...." Never slap down a relic that you don't intend to use that turn. If they stay in play too long, the opponent may be able to destroy them.
"Always have Fun...." This is the most important thing to remember!
"Tips on playing the different regions....." Underneath- Most underneath decks are "burrow" oriented, which can lead to problems. Burrow can often end up creating a deck non-offensive if your missing the right cards at the right time. Another downside to not being able to attack all the time, is the release of cards and creatures that can bypass Burrow's energy-loss reduction abilities(Rayje's Sword), which make burrow utterky useless. If you insist on playing a burrow deck, be sure to have a few cards that are not burrowed.
Arderial- The Arderial are known as being wise and thoughtful and that is how you must play. Think about every single action you are about to do, before you do it. Try to see the whole picture, not just a single turn. Always try to stay one step ahead of your opponent. I know this is easier said than done!
Kybar's Teeth- Despite being made of Rock, the Teeth can be pretty fragile if not played correctly. Constantly watch your Magi's energy, if it gets too low your doomed! Try to pace yourself from turn 1, don't bust out all your creatures in one turn and leave your magi with 1 or 2 energy. On my first turn I try to play 1 or 2 creatures at most and be sure to leave my Magi around 10 energy. Remeber, when a rock falls off the top of a Mountain, it is pretty hard for it to get back up again!
Core- In my opinion, I don't like most Core decks. Most of them are all about the same (same Magi even, just sometimes in a different order), and take little real strategy as most cards will play themselves out. So my only advice is this, after you've beaten everyone with your Core deck that looks like everyone else's..... change it. That's right, do everyone a favor and do something interesting and more fun like adding Tony Jones as a Magi (great idea Jeremy!) or even making a "Geyser" deck.
Bograth- In my opinion, the Bograth will be a hard region to master. The idea behind them is to swarm you opponent with tons of small creatures who get better in numbers. The key to making this work is by hording up untill you have a huge hand. A Magi perfect for this is Baah. His abilty to spend one energy to draw an extra card for each creature played works well. Definitly beware, if your hand gets too low; then you as good as dead. Play smart, and your enemies shall smell your wrath.....er, um..... feel your stinch......uh, er....you know what I mean!
Well, that's about it for now. I'll post more in the future as soon as I think of them. If you have any tips or ideas email them to me, and I'll post them!
